September:
- Riverfront Ramble – The fourth annual celebration of towns along the Delaware River has expanded to a full weekend of music, food and family-friendly fun, including a jazz fest, a children’s river history program and a duck race. The festival is held September 15-16 and spans the 14 miles of waterfront from Marcus Hook to Tinicum. The John Heinz National Wildlife Refuge will host activities on both days, and a band of Blackbeard’s Pirates will also provide plenty of rowdy fun throughout the weekend. www.riverfrontramble.com
- Jefferson Hospital Philadelphia Distance Run – The premier half marathon in the U.S. for more than a quarter of a century, held this year on September 16, follows a course over some of Philadelphia’s most celebrated and historic neighborhoods. The 30th annual distance run features live music at every mile, as well as the Philadelphia Children’s Run specifically designed for future competitors. www.runphilly.com
- Philadelphia Fall Classic – Join the nation’s second oldest canoe club for its annual Fall Classic, a 10,000-meter canoe, kayak, outrigger and surfski race at noon on September 23. October:
- Philadelphia International Dragon Boat Festival – More than 100 teams race fiberglass dragon boats, complete with heads and tails, on a 500-meter course on the Schuylkill River. - Covered Bridges Ride – More than 2,000 cyclists from across the Northeastern United States admire the region’s fall foliage while traversing Bucks County. The October 14 event takes riders through some of the world’s oldest and most picturesque wooden covered bridges. www.cbbikeclub.org
- Pennsylvania Guild Fall Fine Craft Festival – The Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen’s most popular outdoor festival, held in Bucks County’s beautiful Tyler State Park from October 19-21, features more than 180 exhibitors, delicious food and live music by the popular Acoustic Roadshow. November:
- Run With Olympians – On November 17, runners of all levels will have a chance to train alongside some of the sport’s best, including Olympic veterans Tim Broe, Carrie Tollefson and Todd Williams. - Philadelphia Marathon – Runners begin at the Philadelphia Museum of Art and run by many of the city’s most popular historic sites for this popular, record-setting marathon on November 18. - Lake Nockamixon Whitewater Release – Twice a year the waters of the 1,400-acre Lake Nockamixon are unleashed into Tohickon Creek in Upper Bucks County, delighting whitewater enthusiasts across the Mid Atlantic with a chance to experience its class three and four rapids. Scheduled yearly for the first weekend in November and third weekend in March, the trip takes whitewater enthusiasts down some of the most beautiful natural landscapes in all of Southeast Pennsylvania.
