AS REAL WORLD PHILADELPHIA DEBUTS, VISITORS ENCOURAGED
TO TAKE A WALK ON CITY’S WILDER SIDE

Journalists Will Be First To Experience Real Fun, Real Young, Real Philly Itinerary

PHILADELPHIA, September 1, 2004 When MTV’s The Real World Philadelphia debuts on September 7, 2004, millions of young people in 43 countries will be exposed to the fun and  trendy side of Philadelphia. To capitalize on the city’s high visibility in the younger market, the Greater Philadelphia Tourism Marketing Corporation (GPTMC) has created an itinerary for “twenty-something” travelers. Developed by young GPTMC staffers who really live, work and play in Philadelphia, the itinerary features the same funky neighborhoods, hip restaurants, stylish nightlife and trendy boutiques that MTV’s “seven strangers” may have visited during their stay—including, of course, the requisite late-night, post-partying cheesesteak run. Visitors can download the Real Fun, Real Young, Real Philly itinerary beginning September 7, 2004, the day of the show’s premiere, at www.gophila.com/itineraries.

During the week of the show’s debut, from September 9-12, 2004, GPTMC will host nine journalists from U.S. and Canadian young adult-oriented media outlets to experience the Real Fun, Real Young, Real Philly itinerary for themselves. The goal is to generate feature stories in participating publications, including Stuff, Essence, Ebony, Highrise and Nuvo magazines.

The Greater Philadelphia Tourism Marketing Corporation (GPTMC), Philadelphia's regional tourism marketing agency, is a private, non-profit organization dedicated to building the region's economy and positive image through tourism and destination marketing. For more information about travel to Philadelphia, call the new Independence Visitor Center, located in Independence National Historical Park, at (800) 537-7676, or visit www.gophila.com.
