uwishunu™ SHOWCASES PHILADELPHIA ARTISTS AT HOME AND ACROSS THE COUNTRY
Philly Blog Teams Up With Traveling Exhibition Throughout 2008

PHILADELPHIA, January 15, 2008 - To spread the buzz about Philadelphia’s newly emerging contemporary art movement, uwishunu™, a tourism initiative created by the Greater Philadelphia Tourism Marketing Corporation (GPTMC) and funded by the City of Philadelphia, is connecting with the Big Kids/Little Kids traveling exhibition, chronicling the first eight years of this emerging art scene in the city.

Big Kids/Little Kids, which made its debut in Philadelphia on January 11, is so named because it explains the multi-layered connections that have helped fuel a new generation of artists from the City of Brotherly Love. The exhibition features artwork seen in a book of the same name by Philadelphia’s John Freeborn, one of the founders of collaborative workspace/gallery Space 1026 (and GPTMC creative director). The exhibition shows off the work of local contemporary artists from Space 1026, 1Pixel, 222 Gallery, Spector and from artists outside the city who have been influenced by this scene.

Providing under-the-radar Philly finds on eating, drinking, music, culture and more, uwishunu.com (the centerpiece of the tourism program) will post observations about the Philadelphia leg of the exhibition. In addition, a sponsorship from uwishunu will make it possible for Big Kids/Little Kids to reach new audiences around the country. uwishunu will work with John Freeborn to communicate with media outlets in the cities on the exhibition’s tour and spread the news about Philadelphia’s art scene.
