Totally Terrific Treehouses at Tyler Arboretum: Where Imagination Goes Out on a Limb
May 31-September 28, 2008

PHILADELPHIA, May 9, 2008 - Totally Terrific Treehouses, an exhibit of one-of-a-kind tree houses designed and built by local architects, landscape architects, builders, schools, and artists, is on display May 31 to September 28 at Tyler Arboretum near Media, PA.

Sixteen imaginative structures created by local artisans make themselves at home amidst Tyler’s ancient woodlands.  Daily activities offer a variety of ways to learn Treeology (a new term Tyler adopted to cover both how to study trees and how to enjoy them).  From the whimsical to the educational, each house is designed to inspire visitors of all ages with wonder and appreciation for trees.

The tree houses are generally accessible to visitors and cause no harm to the trees. The builders compete for prizes, including a People's Choice award tallied from visitors’ votes.

One of the oldest American arboreta, Tyler encompasses 650 acres of history, plants, and champion trees.  Twenty miles of hiking trails ramble through woodlands, wetlands, and meadows that form a National Audubon Society Important Bird Area.  Education programs help further the Arboretum’s mission to preserve, develop, and share its diverse horticultural, historic, and natural site resources in order to stimulate an understanding of the living world.

Tyler Arboretum is located at 515 Painter Road off Rte. 352 near Media in Delaware County, PA. Admission is $7 for adults, $6 for seniors (65+), $4 for children (3-15), and free under age 3. The Arboretum is open daily 9 am-5 pm with extended weekend hours during the exhibit: May 31-August 3: 9 am-8 pm; August 4-September 7: 9 am-6 pm; September 8-28: 9 am-6 pm.  For information, call 610-566-9134 or visit www.tylerarboretum.org.
