Belly Dancing, Drag Queens And Movie Nights Mean There’s Never A Dull Moment
PHILADELPHIA, January 22, 2008 - On any night of the week, there are countless things to do after dark in Philadelphia. From an upscale happy hour at a renowned museum to movies with a side of beer to cabarets with a little of everything, nights in Philly fit any mood. Here is a sample of regular prime time happenings:

Culture, Pop And Otherwise:
- Movie Mondays – For a dose of beer and pop culture, movie buffs head to the Trocadero, an old burlesque theater that hosts live music the rest of the week. The paltry $3 concession minimum sure beats normal ticket prices, and the bar stays open before, during and after the flick. 1003 Arch Street, (215) 922-LIVE, www.thetroc.com
- Fancypants Cinema – Filmmakers of all genres bring their short works (less than 15 minutes) to be critiqued—or just enjoyed—by the crowd at N. 3rd on Tuesday nights. 801 N. 3rd Street, (215) 413-3666, www.norththird.com
- Art After 5 – When happy hour requires a little more style and sophistication, the Philadelphia Museum of Art comes through. The priceless art, tasty bites and jazz or international musical performances help kick off the weekend right every Friday. 26th Street & the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, (215) 763-8100, www.philamuseum.org
- First Friday – During this party taking place on the first Friday of every month, the galleries in Historic Philadelphia’s Old City open their doors to the public beginning at 5:00 p.m. and offer free snacks and sips, live music and new installations. www.oldcityarts.org
Dance Fever:
- Belly Dancing – At Byblos Restaurant and Bar, Sunday night is Mediterranean night, when belly dancers let loose and give lessons to those who want to learn their moves. 114 S. 18th Street, (215) 568-3050, www.byblosphilly.com
- Gay Country – For the cowboy or girl in everyone, Woody’s, the city’s popular gay mega club, hosts Gay Country Western Two-Stepping lessons every Sunday. 202 S. 13th Street, (215) 545-1893, www.woodysbar.com
- Flamenco Dancers – On Wednesday and Friday nights, dancers take the stage at Amada to perform the art of flamenco. Coupled with traditional seasonal sangrias and Spanish tapas, the audience finds a Mediterranean escape in the middle of Center City. 217 Chestnut Street, (215) 625-2450, www.amadarestaurant.com
- Latin Floorshows – The mojito drinkers at Cuba Libre Restaurant & Rum Bar enjoy floorshows and salsa dancing that evoke the authentic spirit of old world Cuba on Fridays and Saturdays. 10 S. 2nd Street, (215) 627-0666, www.cubalibrerestaurant.com
Not Just One Of The Crowd:
- Traditional Irish Music – Irish musicians flock to the Plough & the Stars on Sundays for their popular music session, which provides a jaunty musical accompaniment to brunch and beyond. 2nd Street between Market & Chestnut Streets, (215) 733-0300, www.ploughstars.com
- Jam Session – Wannabe jazz kings bee bop with the house band every Tuesday night at Ortlieb’s Jazzhaus in Northern Liberties. 847 N. 3rd Street, (215) 922-1035, www.ortliebsjazzhaus.com

What A Drag:
- Martha Graham Cracker Cabaret – On the second Thursday of every month, Martha Graham Cracker entertains at L’Etage with her arsenal of music, comedy and androgynous theater—and all while wearing heels. 624 S. 6th Street, (215) 592-0656, www.creperie-beaumonde.com
- Drag Night – Lawyers, students, hipsters and more pack into the legendary Bob & Barbara’s Lounge for the Thursday night showcase of drag talent. The rest of the week, the diverse crowd enjoys bands, DJs and other entertainment. 1509 South Street, (215) 545-4511
Belt It Out:

- National Mechanics – Bar-goers rock the mic at this Old City indie bar, where the crowd is hip, the song selections ironic and the craft beers are a-flowin’.
