PHILADELPHIA, September 12, 2007 - Local favorites in Port Richmond, Fishtown and Kensington are highlighted in uwishunu™ (as in “you wish you knew”), a tourism campaign created by the Greater Philadelphia Tourism Marketing Corporation (GPTMC), funded by the City of Philadelphia and supported by City Councilpersons Joan Krajewski, Frank DiCicco, Daniel Savage and their colleagues to show off the city from the inside out. On the insider blog uwishunu.com, locals share under-the-radar scoop on cool things to do in their Philly neighborhoods. Favorites featured on the blog then reappear in uwishunu’s advertising. A mini-magazine inserted in alternative weeklies in New York, Baltimore, Boston, Providence and Washington D.C. this summer highlights (among others) the blog post about Fishtown’s Manhattan Room (a.k.a. MRoom). These mini-magazines feature authentic Philly bloggers with their favorite insider revelations, as well as Philly artists’ renditions of blog post subjects from uwishunu.com.
Web TV:
In uwishunu’s first-ever Web TV series, engaged couple Audrey and Mark head to Fishtown to attend the Trenton Avenue Arts Festival and stroll along the Frankford Avenue Arts Corridor. Along the way, they visit The Rocket Cat, Ida Mae’s Bruncherie, The Garden Center and Bambi Gallery. The Web TV series airs weekly on philebrity.tv and uwishunu.com.

Here’s what Port Richmond, Fishtown and Kensington residents and visitors have written about on the site:
Port Richmond:
- In her post Do Not Feed the Animal (Horse) ((Pony)), seamstress Meg from Fishtown suggests checking out the random ponies in the city before trotting off to Hinge Café for a cup of coffee.
- Though not wowed by chain stores in general, in Bullseye: The Other Target, Meg convinces readers that the Port Richmond Target is “off the beaten path” and has “cred.” Kinda like the neighborhood itself.
- Faithful blogger Gina Allison raves about the Polish fare and the not-so-standard pickle soup at the New Wave Café in her post Taste the Old World at New Wave.
- In Not Mystic Pizza, But Definitely a Slice of Heaven, Port Richmond native Ashlie advises readers to reserve dough early at Tacconelli’s Pizza, home of “the best pie you’ll ever taste.”
Fishtown:
- In Let the Puppet Do the Work, Meg urges readers to head to the Manhattan Room (MRoom) for Puppet Karaoke to watch “puppets in all of their ridiculous glory.”
- In She’s Hollow, but What a Body, blogger Ben praises the masterfully crafted, born-in-Philly guitar called The Philadelphian, from DiPinto Guitars.
- Local watering hole Johnny Brenda’s (JBs) gets a lot of love on the blog:
-
- Blogger Sean called JBs “Philadelphia’s best small music venue” in Johnny Brenda’s 2nd Floor: Live Music Lives.
- In the post POPPED! Kicks Off At Johnny Brenda’s, JBs gets props for being the first venue in the week-long, city-wide music festival.
- Prolific blogger Tom suggests readers “come for the love, stay for the mosh” in Tonight at JBs: Joyful Noise for Friends and Lovers.
- Tom raves about two shows—“a guaranteed fifteen bucks well spent”—in Tonight at JBs: Folk Giants New and Old.
Kensington:
- uwishunu’s Eric blogs about the Kinetic Sculpture Derby, “a creative parade/design contest [that] celebrates art and human powered transit.”
- Art for the Cash Poor: Holly & Ashlee Temple features an interview with the artistic sisters working in a spacious Kensington studio.
