NORTHERN LIBERTIES AND OLD CITY HIGHLIGHTED IN PHILLY TOURISM CAMPAIGN
GPTMC Promotes Local Neighborhoods On uwishunu Blog, In Video And In Tourism Advertising
PHILADELPHIA, September 12, 2007 - Local favorites in Northern Liberties and Old City are highlighted in uwishunu™ (as in “you wish you knew”), a tourism campaign created by the Greater Philadelphia Tourism Marketing Corporation (GPTMC), funded by the City of Philadelphia and supported by City Councilpersons Darrell Clarke, Frank DiCicco and his colleagues to show off the city from the inside out. On the insider blog uwishunu.com, locals share under-the-radar scoop on cool things to do in their Philly neighborhoods. Favorites featured on the blog then reappear in uwishunu’s advertising. Additionally, three episodes of uwishunu’s popular Web TV series feature tours of Northern Liberties, Old City and Penn’s Landing.

A mini-magazine inserted in alternative weeklies in New York, Baltimore, Boston, Providence and Washington D.C. this summer highlights (among others) the uwishunu.com blog post about Old City’s Mum Puppettheatre and Big Jar Books. These mini-magazines feature authentic Philly bloggers with their favorite insider revelations, as well as Philly artists’ renditions of blog post subjects from uwishunu.com.
Web TV:
In uwishunu’s first-ever Web TV series, engaged couple Audrey and Mark head to Northern Liberties for a tour of the Edgar Allan Poe House, a look at the new Silk City Diner, drinks at Siam Lotus and a Latin dinner at Pura Vida. In their hysterical sixth episode, they explore Old City, where they witness a sword fight, visit the Betsy Ross House, ride the trolley and grab some “historic” beer at City Tavern. In the eighth episode, Mark and Audrey venture to Penn’s Landing to explore the riverfront, visit the Independence Seaport Museum and have a meal at the Moshulu. The Web TV episodes air weekly on philebrity.tv and uwishunu.com.

- Blogger Jess suggests visiting the Shrine of St. John Neumann for a glimpse into a faithful world of Religious Iconography at its Strangest.

- The Starlight Ballroom, home to concerts by underground and critically acclaimed artists, is praised in Matthew’s Starry, Starry Nightlife post.
- In his video series Come Drive With Me, Tom tapes the summer sunset while “heading south along the city’s thin back streets and then east along Spring Garden to the Edgar Allan Poe House.”
Old City:
- Pete claims National Mechanics is The New First Friday Bar of Choice, because it’s “grand—like an old time saloon, and the lighting is quirky, constructed from old mechanical parts and filament bulbs.”
- In Spring Tune-Up At Via, reader Jessie suggests Via Bicycle for turn-of-the-century bikes, nostalgic coasters or a tune-up.
- In his post 8th Street Music for Fixing Hexed Equipment, Tom says the guys at 8th Street Music “are straight shooting gear dudes who will tell you exactly what’s wrong and how to fix it.”
