More Than 2,400 Web sites From 40 Countries Competed In WebAward Competitions

PHILADELPHIA, November 2, 2007 - A pair of big award wins this fall honor two technology-based projects developed by the Greater Philadelphia Tourism Marketing Corporation (GPTMC). One award recognized gophila.com, the Philadelphia region’s official tourism Web site, while the other honored SoundAboutPhilly™, featuring free dynamically mapped and completely customizable sound-seeing tours of the city on soundaboutphilly.com.

The Web Marketing Association, Inc. presented gophila.com with the Travel Standard of Excellence 2007 WebAward. The award recognizes the site, which celebrated its 10th anniversary in October, for outstanding achievement in Web site development based on its design, innovation, content, technology, interactivity, copywriting and ease of use. Now in its 11th year, the WebAward competition is the premier annual award competition that judges Web site development against an ever-increasing high standard of excellence and against peer sites within specific industries. In total, more than 2,400 Web sites from 40 countries competed in 96 categories.

On October 16, PR News presented SoundAboutPhilly™, an initiative of The Pew Charitable Trusts created by GPTMC, with its highest honor—the Platinum PR Award. Given by the PR industry’s leading industry publication and resource, the honor recognizes soundaboutphilly.com for outstanding communications efforts surrounding a podcast in the PR arena. This year, more than 600 companies vied for Platinum Awards in more than 25 categories for outstanding PR efforts over the past year. In addition to GPTMC, there were four other finalists in the “Podcast/Videocast” category.
