PHILADELPHIA, November 18, 2005 – Despite the
popularity of Ansel Adams' photographs, many people have never had
the opportunity to view this popular American artist's original
prints. From February 18 through May 14, 2006, The James A.
Michener Museum, located just outside of Philadelphia in
Bucks County, Pennsylvania, will make this opportunity possible
with an exhibition that spans 40 years of the legendary artist's
work. The Michener Museum is the only venue in the mid-Atlantic
states to host Ansel Adams: Celebration of Genius.
Visitors to the exhibition, designed in honor of what would have
been Adams' 100th birthday in 2002, will see images of the natural
and wild beauty of the American West created from the 1920s to the
1960s. They'll view some of the artist's most celebrated photos
such as Moonrise, Hernandez, New Mexico, 1941; Mount Williamson
from Manzanar, California, ca. 1944; and Clearing Winter
Storm, Yosemite National Park, 1944, along with less-known
images such as Mud Hills, Arizona and Water and
Foam. The exhibition is packed with 150 portraits, still lifes
and abstracts.
The James A. Michener Art Museum is dedicated
to preserving, interpreting and exhibiting the art and cultural
heritage of the Bucks County region. In addition to hosting a
changing schedule of exhibitions from around the country, the
museum is home to a extensive collection of Pennsylvania
Impressionist paintings. There is a special $4 fee for admission to
the Adams exhibition. The Michener is located at 138 South Pine
Street in Doylestown. (215) 340-9800, www.michenerartmuseum.org
