PHILADELPHIA, November 28, 2005 -Nobody does New Year’s like Philadelphia. Just ask the thousands of people watching the Mummers strut up Broad Street on the first day of every year. Add the spectacular New Year’s Eve fireworks on Penn’s Landing, a first-rate meal, a dose of rock and roll and a luxurious hotel package for a New Year’s weekend to remember. The following are just a few of the many options for revelers:

Weekend Hotel Packages:

  • Celebrate 2006 in high style with the Four Seasons Hotel’s "New Year’s Eve for Two on Logan Square." Overnight packages include admission to the hotel’s annual black-tie gala, which includes dinner and dancing. Executive chef Martin Hamann will serve seven courses, while a live band plays the music that aims to get diners away from their tables and onto the dance floor. Packages start at $800.   • The prices are right at the Philadelphia Marriott Downtown, offering three overnight packages starting at $249 per couple. "JW’s Ultimate New Year’s Eve Package" includes deluxe accommodations, parking and a four-course dinner at JW’s restaurant. Martini upgrades are available for $35 per person. New Year’s Eve:

  • The bespangled merriment begins at Mummerfest, an annual event at the Pennsylvania Convention Center, where fans can try on costumes, watch brigades rehearse and learn the famous Mummers’ Strut. December 28-31, 2005. 12th & Arch Streets, (215) 467-0281, www.mummersstrut.com

  • Explore local history at the New Year’s Eve Family Overnight Encampment on the Battleship New Jersey. The historic ship is hosting an overnight party with a tour, a ride in the 4D flight simulator and midnight fireworks, plus dinner and breakfast.   • The Blue Cross RiverRink welcomes 2006 with its New Year’s Eve Party on Ice, complete with live music, family activities, food and a fantastic view of the Penn’s Landing fireworks display. Columbus Boulevard & Market Street, (215) 925-7465, www.riverrink.com

New Year’s Day:

  • New Year’s wouldn’t be the same without the Mummers Parade, a day-long affair in which 15,000 clowns, musicians and dancers strut up Broad Street, leaving a trail of glitter, feathers and fun. Starts at 9:00 a.m. www.phillymummers.com
  • Mummer skill and execution is put to the test at the Mummers Fancy Brigade Finale, where judges reward the best performances. 12:00 noon and 5:00 p.m. Pennsylvania Convention Center, 12th & Arch Streets, (215) 893-1962, www.mummersstrut.com
  • Even The Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts gets into the Mummers spirit on New Year’s Day. Parade spectators can warm up and enjoy refreshments in the stunning Commonwealth Plaza lobby or stop in for a New Year’s brunch at Cadence restaurant, which overlooks the Broad Street action. 260 S.
