Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania-Native Mike Rutkoski Plays Pajama Man In Philly: The Musical

PHILADELPHIA, May 17, 2006 - He sings. He dances. He looks smashing in polka-dot pajamas. He’s Mike Rutkoski, the lead in Philly: The Musical, Philadelphia’s new tourism commercial that debuts June 11, 2006. The spot is a sequel to the Philly’s More Fun When You Sleep Over® campaign developed in 2001 to generate buzz for Greater Philadelphia Tourism Marketing Corporation’s two-night Philly Overnight® Hotel Package, featuring pajama-clad tourists like Mike living it up in Philadelphia.

Years of theater experience made the full-time actor a natural for Philly’s musical-themed commercial. Time spent in front of a camera, including a role in the movie Last Request alongside Grey’s Anatomy star T.R. Knight, prepared Mike for the three-day shoot throughout Philadelphia. To show visitors that there is so much to see and do in Philadelphia, Mike danced on Broad Street, shopped in Chestnut Hill, grabbed a cheesesteak at Geno’s and ran up the Philadelphia Museum of Arts steps, Rocky-style—all while sporting the ubiquitous polka dot pajamas.

A Pennsylvania native from Wilkes-Barre, Mike was thrilled to return to a revitalized Philadelphia. “I loved it,” he raved. “I really, really enjoyed it…I was really impressed.” After the curtain rises on Philadelphia’s new advertising campaign, Mike will continue developing a children’s show for cable.
