Classical Music Details Philadelphia is one of the classiest music places anywhere, as the stars embedded in the sidewalk outside the Academy of Music reveal. Marian Anderson, Leopold Stokowski, Rudolf Serkin, Eugene Ormandy, Mario Lanza and Paul Anka used to live here, and sopranos Benita Valente, Anna Moffo and mezzo-soprano Marietta Simpson still do.

The home of the Philadelphia Orchestra is also home to a major opera company, two chamber orchestras, the largest chamber music series anywhere in the U.S., one of the world's most competitive music schools and a 21st-century performing arts center.
