Outsider Tip
Pumpkins are randomly assigned to participating artists, so carvers don’t know what size and shape they’ll get until they start carving.

Get Involved
Proceeds for admission support the Chadds Ford Historical Society, which runs various educational programs.

Barns-Brinton House (Historic Houses of Chadds Ford)
Local artists take on a patch of monstrously large pumpkins at this annual pumpkin festival, turning the giant orange gourds, some of which weigh up to 400 pounds, into hauntingly carved masterpieces.

Expect a mix of local and regional visitors to this popular event, which is a tradition in the Brandywine Valley’s artist community. You’ll even get a chance to help judge the artists' handiwork. These pumpkin masterpieces are lit and on display all three evenings, turning the grove behind the Chadds Ford Historical Society's Barn into a spooky celebration of Halloween.

In addition to serving as judges, you'll also get to enjoy live music, tasty food and hayrides.

History

The origins of the Carve date back to the early 1970s, when a group of local artists gathered on the porch of the Chadds Ford Inn and challenged each other to a pumpkin carving competition.
COME PREPARED

Wear comfortable shoes, dress warmly, bring a flashlight and leave the dogs at home. Pumpkin carving is by invitation only, but you can help the judging!

DON'T MISS
At nightfall (around 5 p.m.) the pumpkins are lit and the 70 hauntingly carved masterpieces make for a truly magical Halloween experience.
