The Exhibition
The Franklin Institute has struck gold with Real Pirates: The Untold Story of the Whydah. This fun, hands-on exhibition delves into the history of the Whydah, a pirate ship that sank nearly 300 years ago off the coast of Cape Cod, Massachusetts.
When underwater explorer Barry Clifford discovered the Whydah's remains in 1984, it became the first fully authenticated pirate ship to be discovered in American waters. Not only that — an unprecedented wealth of jewelry, coins and gold was discovered and brought to the surface.
More than 200 artifacts in this rich display of pirate treasure are featured in the Real Pirates exhibition — including weaponry, jewelry, treasure from across the globe and authentic coins that visitors can touch.
And kids of all ages can explore the life of a real pirate — you can step on board a recreation of the ship’s stern, walk into the Captain’s quarters and go below deck to discover what life was like aboard a real pirate ship!
