Philadelphia is home to several homes that date back to the late 17th and early 18th centuries. Pennsylvania's first secretary of state, James Logan, built his Stenton estate as a country retreat from the city. Located in Germantown which was the "country" back then, Stenton today is within Philadelphia city limits.
