The Experience
Have you ever wandered past an old or abandoned building, decked out in intricate yet dated architectural details, and wondered what the building's significance had been in a past life?
Now you can discover these architectural treasures with Hidden City Philadelphia, a uniquely moving arts festival that brings Philadelphia’s best unknown historical and architectural landmarks back to life through original works of art.
The Performances
Performing and visual artists have created dance, music, sculpture, video, print and mixed-media pieces inspired by the history and architecture of their selected sites. The pieces aim to draw attention back to the people and places that, over time, helped make Philadelphia the great city it is today.
Highlights include the Mother Bethel AME Church, the Philadelphia Inquirer Building and the Metropolitan Opera House, a magnificent space in North Philadelphia whose emptiness gives it an almost haunted aura.
And architecture fans will especially enjoy the performances at Shiloh Baptist Church, a Frank Furness-designed structure in the Graduate Hospital neighborhood.
