History - Looking Back Before Looking Ahead
The Philadelphia Eagles took to the football field for the first time in 1946. The franchise enjoyed early success, winning three championships in 1948, 1949 and 1960.
Prior to 2005, the team's most recent trip to football’s promised land was in 1980 when they defeated the Dallas Cowboys in the NFC Championship before falling to the Oakland Raiders in Super Bowl XV.
In the new millennium, the Eagles regained their position as one of the league’s most dominating teams. Led by quarterback Donovan McNabb, they reached the NFC Championship Game four years in a row between 2002 and 2005.
Then the tumultuous and injury-ridden 2005-06 season came and left the team — and the City of Philadelphia — humbled and staring at a 6-10 final record, which left the team out of the playoffs for the first time in six years.
