Films can serve as a gateway to other cultures, offering opportunities for insight and understanding. Several local film festivals celebrate our diversity with films that challenge, explore, and celebrate our similarities and differences. Many programs include speakers and discussions that provide a richer understanding of world traditions.
Jewish Film Festival
Some of the best cinema relating to Jewish life and culture is presented during 12 events from November through April. Moderated discussions are part of each presentation, and the list of features and documentaries often includes Oscar-nominated films and local premieres. The New Filmmakers Award is presented during the special new filmmakers' weekend.
Israeli Film Festival
For one week each spring, the best of Israel’s thriving film industry hits area screens with contemporary features and documentaries from established and emerging filmmakers. The entries are shown in their original Hebrew with English subtitles and are presented in theaters, community centers and museums throughout the city and suburbs. Most events include a speaker, discussion and refreshments.
