Insider Tip
Hedgerow is 1.5 miles from downtown Media, an old-fashioned county seat with an operating trolley, antique shops and several restaurants — a great place to park and simply walk around.

Kids' Shows
Every Saturday at 11 a.m. Hedgerow’s 50-minute children’s shows emphasize fun. Seeing favorite tales such as Winnie the Pooh and Beauty and the Beast come to life is a safe, fun first exposure to live theatre.

The Experience

Hedgerow Theatre, located in an idyllic suburban setting in an atmospheric old building, is the oldest local continuously operating theater in the area. Its focus has always been on ensemble acting and on producing challenging work.

Hedgerow offers the opportunity to watch emerging actors grow under the mentoring experience of veteran actors and directors. Experimentation and risk are encouraged with lots of emphasis on how members of the ensemble interact with each other. The theater survived a catastrophic fire in the late 1980s and currently performs a mixed repertory of classics and modern plays.

History

Housed in an 1840 gristmill, “America’s oldest (1923) continuously operating residential repertory theatre” was founded by artists so passionate that one proclaimed, "We will perform theatre if we have to do it in the hedgerows.” (Hence, its name.) Today, its goals remain quality artistic work and development of actors, students and patrons. Hedgerow’s acting school offers classes for adults and children.
