Outsider Tip
If you're relatively fit and you have the energy, you might want to take the thre-hour ride along the Schuylkill River Trail to Manayunk, Philadelphias fashionable riverfront neighborhood where you can take your pick of lunchtime eateries.
Or your might try the Perkiomen Trail, a packed gravel path that begins at Valley Forge and winds through some of Montgomery County’s most charming towns.
With more than 3,600 acres of scattered monuments and long, unending views of rolling landscapes, Valley Forge National Historic Park is perhaps best seen from the seat of a bicycle.
You don’t even have to bring your own — you can rent bicycles by the hour (weather permitting) from the Welcome Center parking lot.
The rentals are path bikes, which are similar to mountain bikes but slightly more comfortable. For the kids, there are two sizes of smaller bikes: a tag-a-long half-bike that hitches to the back of an adult bike and buggies that tow behind an adult bike for the very little ones.

COME PREPARED
You'll need a major credit card. Helmets must be worn and are included in the rental fee. You can park your car in the lot where you'll find the rental trailer.
