Tree Lighting
December 4, 2008 - 5-7 p.m.
The Tree Lighting Ceremony features holiday entertainment, character visits, complimentary roasted chestnuts, Santa Claus and more holiday surprises.
The Christmas Tree itself is more than 30 feet tall.
So come one, come all to see Santa flip the switch and turn on Rittenhouse Square's beautiful holiday lights!
When Santa flips the switch, 5,000 brilliant, multi-colored globes will illuminate the square from above. These holiday lights will join Philadelphia's largest Christmas Tree — located in the center of the Square — to make Rittenhouse Square one of Center City's most festive public spaces for the holidays.
Holidays on the Square
Start the day shopping along Rittenhouse Row. Then make your way to Rittenhouse Square at dusk, where carolers and hot chocolate will have you toasting season.
Afterwards, eat, drink and be merry — and take advantage of happy hour and the fine dining options offered at Rittenhouse Square’s restaurants, lounges and bars.
A few recommendations: Tria, Continental Midtown, Rouge, Twenty Manning, Audrey Claire, Parc, Matyson and Monk's are all nearby.
