Insider Tip
James hosts wine and foodie events throughout the year. Past events have included a family-style dinner honoring a local farm, a wine and cheese party and a beer dinner with Sly Fox brewery.
Visit James to learn more about upcoming events.
Another Insider Tip
James has a late night happy hour on Tuesdays from 10-12 with half price local beers and seasonal cocktails. It's a great time to visit. Morevover, Daily Candy swears by one of their bartenders. And every Thursday, James has new cheese and wine pairings for the many fromage fans among you.
James, a newcomer to the Bella Vista neighborhood of Philadelphia, has been garnering widespread praise since it opened.
In August 2007, Philadelphia Magazine gave James' roast chicken its "Best of Philly" Entrée award, citing its "moist, meaty and aromatic" flavor and texture.
But that was only the beginning — James just recently received national recognition when Food & Wine called its risotto alla Kristina one of the "Ten Best Dishes of 2007."
The restaurant serves Italian and contemporary American cuisine with a farm-fresh twist.
Cuisine
James' menu weaves local, seasonal produce and humanely raised meats into creative Italian and American dishes. Ingredients change seasonally, so the menu is always boasting new innovations.
A few crowd-pleasers include sautéed langostino tails with whipped ricotta and grapefruit, hand-rolled gargarnelli with celery broth and braised rabbit agnolotti with muscat grapes.
The aforementioned risotta alla Kristina, named after co-owner Kristina Burke and created by her husband, Chef Jim Burke, is also very popular and accented with oysters and prosecco.
Or consider ordering the roast chicken if it's on the seasonal menu — either way, you know you're getting one of the best entrées, if not the best entrée, in the city.
