Insider Tip
Want to celebrate a special occasion veggie-style? A large table in the dining room can accommodate parties of up to 10 people.
Located in the Bella Vista neighborhood, Horizons Philadelphia dishes out new vegan cuisine fused with tropical and Mediterranean flavors. The restaurant continually earns high accolades in Philadelphia and beyond, including an impressive three-bell review from the Philadelphia Inquirer in 2006, being called "one of the city's best new restaurants" by the New York Times, and the 2006 Restaurant of the Year from Veg News Magazine.
So don't let the "vegan" label scare you off — it's often said that Horizons Philadelphia's flavorful vegetables, legumes and spices out-do acclaimed non-vegan dishes.
The Food
Chef Rich Landau and his wife, pastry chef Kate Jacoby, draw upon their African, Mediterranean and Caribbean travels to influence the dynamic flavors of their dishes.
As an appetizer, sample the deviled oyster mushroom fritters, which come topped with seaweed "caviar." Then try out the portobella mushroom carpaccio, the pan-roasted peppercorn tofu or the hearts of palm paella.
Whether or not it comes as a surprise, you'll find that vegan cuisine can be even more delicious than traditional fare.
