Insider Tip
And if you’re looking for an excellent meal that won’t break the bank, you can not beat the bar/cafe menu at La Terrasse. Take a seat at their long, beautiful oak bar and order from the extensive bar menu of appetizers, salads, sandwiches and entrees. And if it’s nice outside, the bar menu is also served on the namesake terrace.
Keep your eye out for the always elusive late-night happy hour which pops up at La Terrasse from time to time, typically 10 p.m. to midnight on weeknights.
Located across the street from Penn’s law library, La Terrasse often serves a quick meal (and perhaps a drink or two) to busy students on a study break. Even more often, however, it’s a melting pot for the entire neighborhood as students, professors, business types and locals all migrate to the narrow building on Sansom Street for good food and great company.
The main dining room and atrium is great for casual or formal dining occasions. Indoor foliage nicely augments the atmosphere no matter if it's a lunch meeting, a first date or a family dinner. The menu is that of upscale Parisian style bistro with a modern twist. From the onion soup to the steak frites to the shrimp and crab sausages, expect intensely rich French fare.
The multi-tiered dining experience also includes a popular bar and happy hour, where much of the action takes place. There’s also a charming outside deck that fills up quickly during the warmer months.
