Outsider Tip
In summer, evening movies are shown once a month; added bonus: they’re free.
Trailer your horse to this park for a relaxing ride along 18 miles of wooded trails, followed by an overnight camp-out under the stars. Rent an electric boat for a day out on the glassy water of the reservoir, or take a rowboat out for a fishing trip on Deep Creek Lake.
For hikes, you have your pick: some of the trails are steep, while some are flat in this 3400-acre park. And many of the trails connect to Valley Forge National Historical Park via the 20-mile Perkiomen Trail, making it a popular destination for hikers and bikers.
COME PREPARED
There is a fee to camp. Showers and laundry facilities are available not far from the camp site. Horseback riders can find volunteer guides through the Montgomery County Equine Council.
No alcohol is permitted and pets must be leashed.
DON'T MISS
The Scottish-Irish Festival, a free event held the first weekend after Labor Day, features celtic bands, bagpipes, Irish and highland dancers, sheep dog trials and more.
