Outsider Tip
You might not find horseshoes on this trail, but you’ll likely run into horses as well as people. Hence the name, horse-shoe trail.

Support the Trail

Take your horse, bicycle or hiking boots to explore the wooded trails and open meadows that lie along this beloved trail. Keep an eye out for birds, deer and other wildlife along the way, particularly at the Middle Creek Wildlife Management Area. And you might not want to look down when crossing the old-fashioned cable bridge at French Creek, if you're afraid of heights that is.

The trail goes by a number of fascinating historic sites, including the Wharton Esherick Museum and Hopewell Furnace National Historic Site, before it ends at Stony Mountain, where it connects with the Appalachian Trail.
COME PREPARED
Wear sturdy shoes and boots, and be sure to pack a lunch as well as plenty of water.
DON'T MISS
The Circle T Trail Riders’ annual trail ride is a 160-mile equestrian adventure from Harrisburg to Valley Forge held in June. Call (717) 949-2213 for more information.
